Psalm 33:22 “Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you.”

This spring Christian brothers and sisters enjoyed the power of the prayer of agreement praying and breaking bread together at the London prayer breakfast. On Thursday, May 19 Believers gathered at the nondenominational annual event this year in seven hosting churches, to celebrate God’s unfailing love for them and their community, pray in person and virtually in accord and be inspired to hope by guest speaker Bishop Oscar Muriu.

The theme for the breakfast was Called to Hope… finding an anchor to cling to while our world changes around us. While still coming out of the impact of the pandemic, many are still reeling from the fallout, especially churches that were hit hard with enforced closures. Muriu spoke specifically to the issue of pandemics giving encouragement that with God’s hope and unfailing love the church will overcome.

Through his tour of churches in North America, Muriu, an African leader from Nairobi, is admonishing leaders to get away from mega churches and entertainment services and get back to the basics of discipleship and real connection through personal love and caring to the church and through the church. Muriu ‘s presentation was followed up with live and virtual prayer for the City of London, its people, and its churches.

But the prayer breakfast did not end when participants left the venues. Throughout the morning participants received contemporary hourly prayer point email calls to pray for specific purposes including Praying for Pastors, Praying for the Church in London. The Praying Church Across Canada and Praying for Families.

Participants were encouraged to worship together through a YouTube music presentation and pray out loud a written prayer that included praying Scripture.

This year’s London prayer breakfast is a perfect demonstration of Genesis 50:20 KJV “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive”. While the pandemic was a global devastation, some unique innovations that expand the reach of the Word globally were developed.

Not meant to replace getting together, Zoom and YouTube presentations combined with in person meetings can make better time of a speaker, such as Bishop Oscar Muriu.

While the time restraints of a morning meeting kept prayer time limited, following up with hourly prayer point email maintained the like-mindedness in both prayer and worship. And that participants can also go back to the emails to watch and review, stay in agreement, and encourage extended the reach of the prayer breakfast into the following months.

It also hosts an online downloadable monthly prayer prompt to encourage both the viewer and maintain that power of the prayer of agreement.
