Light the Fire Again

By Trish West

As a parent, we try our best to teach our children what they need to know, to be able to make the right choices and decisions in life... praying we're not alone with each step.

"Dear God... Can I do this?"

We're pregnant! The excitement of a new baby, gathering all the information we can; scour how-to books, search the internet, talk to other parents and look for guidance in the bible… praying we find the right answers.

"The baby just kicked!"

The terrible two's. The joys and challenges of a toddler, doing our best to keep up; sleepless nights, ear infections, toilet training and analyze everything they put in their mouths… praying we make the right choices.

"No, me do it!"

Here we go! The first day of school, setting expectations and rules for them to follow; look both ways before crossing the road, don't talk to strangers, seek help if bullied and be home before dark... praying they will make it home safe.

"Look how high I can climb!"

Brand new territory. Going into adolescence, we struggle to give them space and guidance at the same time; part time work, driving lessons, going on dates and to know when to say 'No'... praying, hoping it is enough.

"GUESS WHO GOT THE JOB @ MCD'S! ;) #makinmoney #theirfriesarethebest "

Empty nest. They're growing up, starting a life of their own; moving out, to continue school or plan a road trip and heartache of falling in and out of love... praying they find their way.

"I'm going to ask her to marry me"

Full circle. Watching as they start their own family; first home, first child and a new job that takes them far away... praying that they know - they are never alone.

"Dear God... Can I do this?"
