The Pastor's Mother and the Usher (HUMOUR)

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

These are beautiful words, comforting words, encouraging words- sung by Josh Groban. When applied to the context of the Bible, Christians can see how scripture points to these verses through God’s word. But, how can a person in despair - one who has no hope for a better future believe this, when events in their life are suggesting just the opposite? God is calling upon us to show them the way. Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it in its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.

The world in which we live today has many stressors that can be difficult to bear. We know to take our burden to God in prayer. Prayer enables us to be strong and equips us to do all things through God, who strengthens us. Go to your brother and strengthen him, recognising his need.

To the downhearted, I offer these scriptures:

Philippians 4:6-8 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have learned, or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. God is beckoning you to lean on him. He will lift the burden in your heart. Call on Him through prayer.

Isiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

God will be with you, and sustain you. Believe this is true.

Romans 8: 38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. God loves you, and will never leave you.


Now is the time to rebuild/reinforce the walls of God's kingdom-help make the world the place that He intended it to be. Love one another as God has loved us. Be your brother's keeper. Reach out to him, so that he may see the glory and majesty of God through us.

In Revelation 1:7-8 we read: Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and was, and is to come, the Almighty.

1st Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the cloud to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the order of things has passed away.

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Therein lays the hope, and the assurance for tomorrow. Indeed, God will raise me up, to more than I alone could be. And he will raise us up, to all that we can be. All praise and glory be to Him.
