One of my many weaknesses, though fortunately one of my less destructive, is books. I especially love scavenging for books at thrift stores, where I can indulge my passion and also hunt for deals on CD's, movies, unique glassware, clothing, furniture…well, you get the point. You would be right to mention that this doesn't exactly make me rare, but what if I told you there was a store that you could both search for the bargain of the week and hit the mission field at the same time?

The Bibles for Missions (BfM) Thrift Stores is a co-ministry with the Bible League of Canada. A purely Canadian ministry the primary goal of BfM Thrift Stores is quite succinct: "Serving to place the Living Word of God worldwide in Joint Ministry with Bible League Canada."

Linda Richardson, store manager of BfM in London says that the store is more than just a traditional thrift store; it is about relationships with customers. "We are staffed mainly through volunteers and most of our volunteers are people that came in to shop initially. Their enthusiasm makes the work place exciting and fun, and makes it a safe place for people to come. In fact, during a recent clearance event we had a customer come in nearly in tears because she thought the store was closing (which it is not)."

Programs the 44 BfM Thrift Stores support the Bible League Canada with include the production of bibles in local languages, literacy programs, lay pastors, church planting, and children's curriculum. In 2013 alone these efforts helped to place over 11 million scriptures world wide along with almost 4 million evangelistic contacts.

BfM Thrift Stores appreciates donations of gently used household items and clothing, but cannot take mattresses or large appliances such as refrigerators or stoves. They are located at 2020 Hyde Park Road (Hyde Park and Fanshawe Park Rd.). The store is open 10 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, and closed Sunday. Phone is (519) 473-8025.
