On October 26th London Youth For Christ held their annual fundraising banquet, titled, “Home For Dinner.” This is an apt name considering YFC's commitment to providing a home away from home, or more often, a home for those who need a place to belong. As one came into the large banquet hall at the London Convention Center the theme of being "home" was readily apparent. Many of the six hundred people who attended were regular YFC supporters, and many of them were friends, colleagues, or acquaintances of each other. Even the professional and talented musicians providing entertainment throughout the night, Randy Rektor and Bailey Pelkman, are the son and future daughter-in-law of YFC staff member Cindy Rektor.

The focus of the fundraising effort is to provide for the core YFC programs as well as the new Café Connect, an outreach, a third space, a place to belong, and a life skill and support collective kitchen and café for youth. The café, which is in the final stages of completion, is intended to keep the ministry focused on its vision, which is as follows: “At YFC London, we envision a healthy, diverse and safe city where youth have the opportunity to discover their amazing God-given potential. For that reason we empower youth to identify their individual potential by addressing the whole person: economic, social, physical and spiritual needs. This is accomplished by providing youth with opportunities for skill development, mentoring relationships, referrals and community spaces for youth to discover their potential.”

The theme of "home" continued with the meal, where friends both old and new passed around salads, steaming serving dishes of chicken and vegetables, and eventually, chocolate cake for dessert. Later in the evening staff members, volunteers, and parents sat around a suitably decorated table to tell their stories of what "home," Youth For Christ, and their faith has meant to them. Fortunately these stories were not lost after the evening and can be found at: and

If you were unable to attend the banquet you certainly missed out on a wonderful evening but you haven't lost your opportunity to be involved.
