Reader Reviews:

Will there really be a seven-year peace treaty with a man known as the Antichrist? Who are the Kings of the North and South and what role do they play in the end-times? Have the prophecies of Daniel already been fulfilled? Using Scripture and history as our guide, this study will seek to reveal the truth. Discover God's plan for the Jewish people and for the world. See how events played out historically, and where we can expect to be taken next. Undertake a journey through the Book of Daniel and discover God's plan for your life.

Do the images and prophecies contained in the Old Testament Book of Daniel intrigue you and yet you’re uncertain as to how you might figure out what is past or present or maybe future? Laura J. Davis’ Unlocking the Truth of Daniel study may be just what you need.

She patiently leads her students through the Scriptures and a maze of historical detail spanning centuries. Repeat mention of certain events, personages and dynasties, along with helpful charts keep students in touch with where the study has taken them and aids in their progression.

Laura ably employs the inductive Bible study method and in the process facilitates the student in adopting that approach in a natural, conversational way. I am certain that learning, discovery and growth will occur for many who faithfully work their way through this study. Investments of thought, prayer, and effort will be rewarded.

I have no hesitation in recommending Unlocking the Truth of Daniel for either private or group study.

This work is rich in historical background and fascinating in detail, and is also far-reaching in implication. Brace yourself though, for on occasion, Laura challenges widely-held cherished notions about “end times,” making her case cogently where that occurs. Important, however, is that she urges students to prayerfully do some digging of their own, and not to simply take her word for it.

Laura J. Davis, with a true heart, demonstrates strong resolve and steady commitment to searching out the truths of God’s Word, in this the first book in her Digging Deeper Series.

-----------------------------------
Unlocking the Truth of Daniel, by Laura Davis, is the first instalment in the Digging Deeper series. It is a rich inductive Bible study, great for groups and individuals. The studies follow this format: a Group Discussion Question, Assigned Readings, Inductive Questions (with relevant historical and Biblical data sprinkled throughout), and a Life Application point. Each study is very clear and easily followed. The questions help the reader engage and wrestle with the text.

The book of Daniel is especially relevant for this hour in history, because it deals with the persecution of the godly and future prophecies. Consider using the keys provided in Unlocking the Truth of Daniel to gain greater understanding and clarity. If this book provides any indication about the future of the series, we have something special to look forward to! May God richly bless your study!

----------------------------------------
After reading the suggested Bible verse, at the end of each chapter there are a series of questions to be pondered upon by the individual or answered and discussed if in a group situation. Following the questions is a “Life Application” section which gives some examples of how to incorporate the meaning of the Bible verse into our daily lives. I like this concept very much as it illustrates suggestions on how to bring each Bible passage to life in present times. If “Unlocking the Truth of Daniel” is used in a group situation, there is also a handy Facilitator’s Guide and Answer Key found at the back of the book. Of course, this would be a useful resource for the individual as well. It could serve as a tool to further clarify the suggested Bible verse. In the Introduction, Author Laura Davis humbly admits…”If something doesn’t sit right with you or you disagree with anything in this study, that’s okay!” I like her approach of reminding her readers that she is “just a guide” while encouraging her reading audience to investigate for themselves if they have a desire to better understand and learn more on their own.

---------------------------------------
“You will begin to see the Scriptures come to life as history plays itself out in its pages. … Don’t take my word for it. Search the Scriptures for yourself.”

And thus, Laura Davis invites us to study the Old Testament book of Daniel together. She proclaims that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and thus worthy of study and as relevant to us in the 21st century as it was to the first readers of the book of Daniel.

She demonstrates a commanding Bible knowledge, and her study plan for readers is clearly laid out, including thought-provoking questions, helpful charts, and enlightening explanations of varying biblical translations and their usefulness. Her coloured pencil suggestion is simple but yields new depths of understanding to the Bible passage at hand.

The first half of the study deals with Daniel’s account of his Babylonian captivity—the three Hebrew children in the fiery furnace, the lion’s den, and other wonderful stories, which, the author points out, are not just children’s favourites, but inspiring for every adult Christian who wrestles with duty, faith in the midst of persecution, and the secular, post-Christian world in which we live.

The second half of the study deals with Daniel’s prophetic dreams and those of powerful rulers of his day, men who built empires, who conquered and were conquered in turn by other mighty kings. Daniel’s prophecies are typically seen as pointing to the end of time when Christ comes to replace all of mankind’s sinful empires with his own perfect Kingdom of God. But Laura Davis offers a convincing argument that, while Daniel is applicable in many ways to modern readers, the book is not “specifically about the end-times so much as it is a book about the end of the nation of Israel at that time.” Mankind’s final “end times” are described in the New Testament book of Revelation. (Which I hope Laura will provide a study for soon.)

Our time is indeed a violent one, and “it is easy to become distraught and anxious.” But Laura Davis encourages readers to “keep your eyes focused on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is coming again to establish His kingdom.”

Until he does, Unlocking the Truth of Daniel reminds us that Christ is King of kings, Lord of lords, and the one who is sovereign over all the rulers of the earth and the affairs of man—a comforting thought in the midst of the 2016 election cycle when we wonder who will be our next leaders.
