The Case For Christ Movie

By Mike Toth

Philippians 2:12-13: 12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. On April 7, 2017, the movie “The Case For Christ” will be released in both Canada and the USA. Based on the 1998 book of the same name the movie chronicles the journey to Christian faith taken by law school graduate and journalist Lee Strobel. Strobel was motivated to investigate the faith based on his wife’s relationship with God, and he went about it like a good journalist, considering all the evidence. A documentary was made on the book in 2004, but the movie was not one of his goals.

“There was no plan (for a movie) but then two studios, including a major motion picture studio, contacted me in one week,” laughs Strobel. “I went with Pure Flix because I trusted them, and I knew Brian Bird (co-producer) would protect the story.”

Since coming to Christ Strobel has embarked on an ambitious public ministry both in media and speaking engagements ministering to and debating skeptics, and giving his testimony across the USA and internationally. He is currently a speaking pastor at the multi campus Woodlands Church in Texas and a faculty member at Houston Baptist University as well as keeping his itinerant schedule. Despite his high-profile path since conversion he maintains his love for those who are searching as he once did.

“It’s important that every Christian has at least one authentic relationship with a non-Christian,” says Strobel. “Relationships are the key (to reaching non-Christians). We need to validate them on their journey, doing more listening than talking. I find a guide to this in 1 Peter 3:15: “15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence(;).”

Strobel’s advice to believers who may struggle reaching their unsaved friend is simple yet profound. “Invite someone to the movie. Someone saying ‘no’ is not soul shattering. We often blow things out of proportion. The first century church was on fire and they suffered greatly to spread the faith, but we aren’t suffering yet.”

“Pray every day and never stop taking risks to reach friends for Jesus.”

According to the Pure Flix website “The Case For Christ’ has been confirmed as coming to the Cineplex Westmount Theatre in London.
