The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship was started by Demos Shakarian in 1953 in Los Angeles, California. The story of how the Shakarian family ended up in California and thrived following their fleeing Armenia in response to a dream from God can be read in the book, “The Happiest People on Earth.” From a once a week meeting with local businessmen in Clifton’s Cafeteria the Fellowship has grown into a major ministry with over 7,000 chapters in 142 countries world-wide, including a chapter here in London.

The form of the meetings is deceptively simple. Anyone can attend the meetings or be a part of the fellowship and can invite their friends. The meeting is held over a meal (in London the monthly meal is a supper time affair) after which a member of the Fellowship gives their testimony of what God has done in their lives.

The atmosphere of the meetings is deliberately nonthreatening. There is no preaching, and in fact, great care is taken to make sure that the testimonies are simply the story of the members’ personal relationship and experience with God. Many chapters hold prayer meetings as well in which attendees of the meetings can have their needs brought before God.

While the meetings may be simple the faith of those in the Fellowship is anything but shallow. The “Full Gospel” of the title means that the group relies on the full Word of God, including the direction and gifts of the Holy Spirit. In fact, the Fellowship often has a difficult time holding on to members’ long term; as the members become more sensitive to and trained in following the Holy Spirit they often become too involved in their home church or ministries to attend many of the meetings!

“The greatest miracle in the universe is the miracle of salvation,” says George Zubick, president of the local chapter. “We tell people, ‘Don’t take your problems home with you, we can pray for you.’ This is an opportunity to experience the God of all creation.”

The London Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Man’s Fellowship generally meets on the second Friday of each month, but you can get in touch with George at (519) 451-5470 if you are interested in further information.
