1 John 4:7-10: Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Rick Price is one of those guys that churches just love to have around. In his 35 years as a Christian Rick has been involved in many ministries within his home church of Jubilee Stratford and other ministries. Like some of our testimonies, however, Rick almost never made it to these opportunities and it was Gods’ intervention that got him there.

His first defining encounter with God occurred the night he celebrated his 22nd birthday. He had just graduated from college and was struggling with disillusionment and financial issues. Though the Lord had been getting Rick’s attention for a while, Rick set out that night to drink himself into a stupor. While sitting on the edge of his tub suffering from the nights’ excess he distinctly heard the Lord warn him to choose or he wouldn’t live much longer.

A week later brought another divine appointment with the power of God. Rick was watching the 700 Club which was on in the afternoons at the time and they came to the portion of the program with prayer and prophetic words. Having grown up in conservative Christian circles Rick was somewhat skeptical of words of prophecy and got up to change the channel. As he reached for the knob Pat Robertson pointed at the camera and said, “You, young man who’s about to change the channel, if you want to know peace and have a future pray this prayer from your heart!” Rick did, and in this way came to Christ.

Around a year after his conversion Rick began to go to Jubilee Church in Stratford. John Arnott was the pastor of the church at the time and began to prepare Rick for service both in and out of the church. Rick began by purchasing the supplies for and volunteering at the Friday night drop in outreach the church had at the time. Throughout his years Rick has worked with the church’s school in recreation, handled the 10-12-year-old Sunday school, has driven the church bus, and lead both adult and young adult cell groups.

Currently Rick is working with the church youth again which comprises around 70 children mainly in the 10-12-year-old range.

In 2015 Rick began to volunteer with the Healing Rooms of Stratford. Rick is in every other Friday night (the off Fridays he’s with the youth at Jubilee) with a team of people praying for those that show up with prayer needs.

“All the volunteers know that it’s Christ centred, and we want people to meet with Christ,” says Price. “The Healing Room is a safe place with lots of compassion. Before meeting with someone we first pray, ‘Lord, what does this person need?’ It’s an honor and a privilege to pray for people.”

Rick stays focused after all these years of ministry because he believes that it’s the churches mandate to minister both inside the body of Christ and outside in fulfilling the Great Commission. “I’ve experienced healing and I’ve been changed. We can’t keep Christ only for the church and can’t be afraid of the world.”

“It’s about knowing that God is love and our new identity in Christ,” says Price. “We need to focus on how God sees us, understand the new covenant, and not focus on our failures. The average Christian struggles with how God sees them, but God has dealt with all that. Be at peace and enjoy who you are in Christ.”
