1 Peter 3:15: …but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

Isaiah 1:18: "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

Rawle Blackman is a successful businessman, world traveller, and a lifelong agnostic. A lifelong agnostic, that is, until he was invited to what he thought was a businessman’s networking lunch.

“I was invited to go to this session with Harvey Katz and other businessmen. I didn’t know it would be the Alpha program, I just thought it would be an opportunity to network with some of the big guys in the city,” says Blackman. Blackman has always been a logical thinker,

and subscribed to the view that man created God out of his own need, rather than God creating man. While his wife’s faith (a lifelong Christian) didn’t cause problems between them, attempts by other believers failed due to their reliance on the “leap of faith” aspect of some evangelism. This tactic was ineffective with an intellectual such as Blackman. The Alpha program’s design of twelve sessions of videos with Nicky Gumble’s Alpha talks combined with working through faith, rather than pressuring a decision, was far more appealing.

“The first three sessions I raised the normal objections to the faith from my agnostic view. During the fourth session something just took over me. I was weeping uncontrollably and had to turn away to make sure others didn’t see me.” It was at that moment that he knew there was a superior force, Someone greater than him in the universe.

“I have always been a positive person,” says Blackman, “but I am more positive now that I know what is beyond this existence.” Blackman’s advice to Christians who want to share their faith is to listen to Nicky Gumble.

“Nicky Gumble is very articulate, and I am his biggest fan. Logically explain Christ, logically explain what you believe, especially if you are a logical person.”

Blackman has been a Christian for three and a half years and attends Open Door Christian Fellowship in London.
