A Corpse That Only Leads to Secrets.
An Old Flame with Danger Written all over Her.
Things Are about to Get Very Complicated.

When one Coast Guard officer is found dead and another goes missing, Coast Guard Investigative Service special agent Finn Walker faces his most dangerous crime yet. His only clues are what little evidence remains aboard the dead officer's boat, and the direction the clues point to will test Finn and the Guard to their limits.

The already volatile situation is complicated even further by the arrival of Gabby Rowley--Finn's boss's sister and an investigative reporter with unrelenting questions about the crime. Now that she's returned, the tug on Finn's heart is strong, but with the risks she's taking for her next big story, he fears she might not live through it.

Thrown together by the heinous crime, Finn and Gabby can't ignore the sparks or judgments flying between them. But will they be able to see past their preconceptions long enough to track down an elusive killer, or will they become his next mark?

Reader Reviews

Sarah Grace Grzy rated “The Killing Tide” a 3 out of 5 Stars

Dani Pettrey is a talented author, and I won't deny that. While I haven't actually found one of her books that I hands-down love yet, I keep coming back and trying more. This series, in particular, seems to have a lot of promise. Plus, I can't get over that gorgeous cover.

Plot and story wise, Pettrey's books are sound and incredibly unique. I am always sucked in by that aspect and can't stop turning pages! I had no idea who the perpetrator was until it was revealed near the end, and I was quite shocked! Although for a moment, I had to remember who that character was, so maybe a little more interaction with him in the book would have made that clearer for the reader. The ending took a pretty creepy turn that I didn't particularly care for, but the action and suspense throughout was on point. My adrenaline was racing at times!

Character and romance wise are where I feel that Pettrey falls short. For me, at least. The characters seem to be based entirely around each other and the romance, leaving little room for character arcs and development. Characters can make a or break a story for me most times, so that is perhaps why I feel a lack of connection with Pettrey's books. Although I will say that her secondary characters seem to be so much more developed and I honestly found myself more attached to them than our main characters. And as for the romance, it ends up being far too steamy for my tastes. There are many heated scenes throughout including passionate kisses, loads of physical attraction and 'tingles' and 'jitters' at the other's nearness\touch. While of course it never becomes an all-out sex scene in any way, I nonetheless found myself blushing and skimming through these scenes. The romance was based so much on physical attraction and not the characters personality or character qualities, which always gets a thumb-down for me.

All in all, if you are looking for a suspense-y, action-packed story heavy on the romance, definitely check this one out! It wasn't my favorite, but it could be yours. :)

This has a composite cast with the set up for book two. Like other Dani Pettrey books there’s action, romance, and a host of characters working together. A truly enjoyable read.

Jes Drew rated “The Killing Tide” a 4 out of 5 Stars

The Killing Tide by Dani Pettrey was a fast-paced thriller with a great romance mixed in. I loved Finn, who is trying desperately to do his job in solving the mystery, getting justice for his friend, protecting the sister his boss foisted off on him despite their past, and trying to convince Gabby to love him again. And then we follow the female coast guard team member, Rissi, every few scenes or two in her own attempt to solve the mystery- and try to ignore the ghosts of her past.

But, wow, hide yo husband, hide yo self if you are the husband- there's a widow maker running around over there.

Anyway, I loved Finn. He was too sweet to be here. Gabby was a reporter so, of course, she got on my nerves a bit. Yes, you should try to get to the truth. But some things are just too far when there are lives on the line. Oh, and the villain was spot-on creepiness.

To conclude, if you like romantic suspense, you will like The Killing Tide. So go enjoy!

Susan Snodgrass rated “The Killing Tide” a 4 out of 5 Stars

Dani Pettrey starts off a new series with The Killing Tide, about a group of Coast Guard Investigative Service special agents. This one centers around Finn Walker, who is facing a very dangerous crime with little to no evidence, while at the same time dealing with the woman who broke his heart coming back into his life again.

Gabby Rowley, sister of one of the Coast Guard special agents, and investigative reporter, is supposed to be in hiding because of a threat to her life. But Gabby has a mind of her own and doesn't want to stay hidden and keep her nose out of the crime that's taken place. The crime that the Coast Guard needs to solve, not her.

Pettrey once again gives her readers a book full of suspense and great characters. We get a brief glimpse of all the special agents, and know that they each will most likely have a book dedicated to them. Fans of Pettrey will delight in this kick off to her new series.

Kelly Bridgewater rated “The Killing Tide” a 5 out of 5 Stars

Dani Pettrey definitely knows what is required to create a romantic suspense. I adore how she creates a whole cast of brave heroines and heroes to fill her stories. By entering into a new story, Pettrey invites her readers into a world that becomes real and unique. In Killing Tide, readers are introduced to a team of Coast Guard Investigative Services that are as close as family. They spend time together, caring for each other inside and outside the job.

The characters are memorable, yet brave. Gabby has a past that Pettrey hints out and doesn't resolve by the end of the first edition. While Finn has a past too, but Pettrey didn't keep it hidden from the readers. The romance between Finn and Gabby flourishes and sparks from the past romance they shared. Killing Tide is a death-defying story of chasing buried treasures and uncovering the truth of a boat explosion and castrophy of a dead man.

The story captured my attention pretty quickly, and Pettrey didn't let go until the last hair-raising moment. I enjoyed spending time with these characters and can't wait to see what dilemma they find themselves in for the next story.

This was an amazing book! I really loved all the characters. I especially loved the coast guard centered story for a change of pace.

I especially loved Gabby. I really related worth how she was torn in two directions. She was far from perfect, but I loved her.

Finn was dreamy. Also not perfect, but definitely a true hero!

Pettrey is a fantastic writer. I had no idea who the bad guy was or how the story would conclude and the whole book kept me on my toes. I cannot wait to read book two!

Caitlyn Santi rated “The Killing Tide” a 5 out of 5 Stars

Oh my stars! I am speechless in the best way, how do I even begin to find the words to say how much I loved this book?! This was my most anticipated read of 2019 and I am absolutely delighted to say that it exceeded all my expectations!

In my opinion Dani Pettrey just blasted her own already sky-high bar somewhere into outer space!

I loved Gabby and Finn instantly, as well as the rest of the CGIS team, and I can't wait to hang out with them all again! As I have come to expect from Dani's books the suspense in The Killing Tide was top notch, and more times than I can count it got my adrenaline pumping like mad as I breathlessly perched on the edge of my seat!

The Killing Tide totally and completely sucked me into its vortex of spellbinding amazingness on page one and would not let go, which delighted me to no end!

I loved, loved, LOVED this book and read it in about 24 hours because I could not stop turning pages!

I could seriously go on gushing for days about how amazing this book is and how much I loved it!

My only complaint is having to wait for the next book in the Coastal Guardians series, but I can be patient because I know it will be well worth the wait!

The Killing Tide is an absolute must read for fans of Christian romantic suspense! Seriously, go buy it RIGHT NOW! You can thank me later! ;) This book without question has a permanent spot on my keeper shelf, and it is in my top 5 favorite reads of the year!

I wish I could give The Killing Tide more than five stars, because if I could I'd give it as many stars as there are drops of water in the ocean or grains of sand on the beach, that's right: innumerable, and it truly deserves each and every one!

Suzie Waltner rated “The Killing Tide” a 5 out of 5 Stars

Oh. My. Word! In The Killing Tide, Dani Pettrey introduces a new cast of characters, a new setting, and her personal brand of high octane, cannot-put-it-down, lose-sleep-over-it romantic suspense.

There is so much I loved about this book: a team of investigators that are a team and a family you want to be a part of, excellent information and insight into the Coast Guard Investigation Services, twists and turns that leave you white-knuckled, and swoon-worthy romance between at least two (with hints of more to come) characters. And y’all, there is nothing more attractive than a man with a strong faith and a protective streak like Finn Walker.

As if all of that wasn’t enough: THAT ENDING! The one that had me immediately online and adding the next book to my TBR. Books like The Killing Tide are proof that Pettrey deserves a place at the top of my must-read romantic suspense authors list.

Dana Michael rated “The Killing Tide” a 4 out of 5 Stars

The Killing Tide is a fast paced romantic thriller involving a cast of characters from the Coast Guard's CGIS. This particular book features Finn and an investigative reporter named Gabby.

I have to admit it took me a quick minute to get into it because of the many characters in the book. But once I got a few chapters in, I felt I knew them all and they were my good friends. I'm excited because this is the first in a series and I am already anxious to read the next book about Rissi.

Kristine Morgan rated “The Killing Tide” a 5 out of 5 Stars

Darn you Dani Pettrey, you always cost me sleep! The Killing Tide kept me awake long after I should have been sound asleep! Your plots pull me along compelling me to keep reading. Your characters are realistic and have clever dialogue.

I believe The Killing Tide to be your most intense book thus far! So my advice to Readers of The Killing Tide is to wait until you have time to immerse yourself in this book. Don't plan on doing anything else! LOL So send the kids to grandmas, send the hubby fishing, then grab a pitcher of ice tea and snacks then settle in for an intense read!
