Will Graham and The Quinte Celebration of Hope in Belleville

The Billy Graham Evangelical Association of Canada hosted the Quinte Celebration of Hope with Will Graham on October 4th, 5th and 6th in Belleville.

There were 5900 people in attendance over the 3 nights with a total of 600 people responding to the Proclamation of the Gospel. We even had fire alarm on the Sunday (return air duct alarm got triggered by some the fog from the fog machine used to enhance the lighting during the concert portion).

“We were outside for 45 minutes and two of the singers, soloist Matt Maher and Josh Havens of the group, the Afters performed out in the parking lot leading worship with a guitar. We were able to resume once the fire department came and inspected.”

Two of the many, many Good News stories of His power from the Quinte celebration:

A donor from Belleville shared the following …..
“A family from our church invited a lady, who had recently been through a divorce, she had made a decision when she was 12 but hasn’t been living for the Lord. She came alone without her kids. When the alarm was pulled, and they were outside, she got a call from her 12-year-old son, who was locked out somewhere and needed a ride. The lady was quite upset and tried to get him to get a ride from his dad, or grandparents but he couldn’t. So, she made the decision to leave and my friends didn’t expect to see her back. Well she came back and ended up bringing her 12-year-old son with her. Her son got to hear the end of Matt Maher and the message and went forward and gave his heart to the Lord. Had the fire alarm not gone off, she wouldn’t have left, and he wouldn’t have come back and give his heart to the Lord. I wasn’t supposed to council last night as I was sitting with Nick and they kept calling for children’s councillors and my kids hounded me and hounded me to go up to help, so I excused myself from Nick and got directed to the front and then to the back of the counselling area, where I met and counselled with Jacob. Heard the rest of the story later how he wasn’t supposed to be there but because of the fire alarm, he is now in the kingdom. Pretty cool if you ask me.”

He wasn’t supposed to be at the Celebration of Hope, but now he’s a new follower of Jesus Christ
Jacob never thought he would be on the floor of the CAA Arena in Belleville, ON. In fact, he wasn’t supposed to be at the final night of the Quinte Celebration of Hope with Will Graham. But there he was, meeting with a volunteer counselor to confirm his decision to follow Jesus Christ.

Jacob, 12, was supposed to be elsewhere, at a social event. But when no one showed up, he called his mother—who was at the Celebration—to get a ride. She had intended to drive him home for the night but, to her surprise, Jacob wanted to see the Celebration.

They returned to CAA Arena just in time to hear Will Graham present the Gospel. Jacob found a friend to sit with and, as Will invited people to repent and trust in “the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end” (Revelation 21:6, ESV), he leaned over to his friend and said, “I want to go forward.”

Brought out of his seat to counsel

In front of the arena stage, Jacob met with Bruce MacKay. Bruce served as a volunteer children’s counselor during the Celebration’s first two nights, but wasn’t intending to do so on this final night because he brought his two daughters and a friend.

However, as counselors were huddling with people at the front of the arena stage, the call came out for another children’s counselor. Bruce didn’t answer the first time, but when it happened again, his daughters encouraged him to respond.

Bruce did and when he reached the floor of the arena, he was stunned to find Jacob, who he was familiar with from church, waiting for him.

He counseled Jacob and helped the boy understand his life-changing decision. “He gave me a big smile and a high-five,” Bruce said.

Almost 13,000 people either attended the Celebration or watched it online, and 600 joined Jacob in responding—either in person or online—to Will Graham’s message of hope in Jesus Christ—Praise God!

At the end of the evening, as the Celebration stage was being dismantled, Bruce sat in the stands pondering his part in the miraculous turn of events with Jacob.

“At that moment, I thought, ‘God you’re totally in control; you orchestrated this whole thing.’ It was unbelievable how he had it all worked out.

“And I’m thankful my daughters are persistent,” Bruce added with a laugh.

We’re thankful for all that the Lord has done through the Celebration—and thankful for people like you who have a heart to see Canadians come to faith in Christ. And there’s so much more to do; so many millions of people who have never heard the Good News.

The Celebration organizing team at the Billy Graham Evangelical Association of Canada are grateful for the unity amongst the churches experienced in the Quinte region as they partnered, trained, equipped and prayed with them over the past year. Nearly 1000 people in Quinte took our Christian Life and Witness training course at 14 different locations and over 500 prayed regularly at 24 different prayer events. Including the 100 days of 24/7 prayer, launched in June at Zwicks Park.

“We pray for those that responded and pray for the partnering churches that have now begun the next step and disciple those that came forward. Lives have been changed for Eternity!!”

So, God is and was at work in Quinte.

Is the Celebration coming to London? Stay tuned...
