Villages United Church and Ministries

Just north of Highway 7 there is the small village of Granton. There you can find a country church known as Villages United Church(pictured to the right). This church may look like many other country churches, but there is much more than meets the eye. Villages has been working hard over the years to help sustain United Churches in other communities. Currently Villages United has partnered with 5 churches and 7 communities. The church site locations include: Kirkton United Church, Zion West United Church, Centralia United Church, Bryanston United Church, and of course Villages United Church in Granton.

Villages also supports the areas of Woodham and Lucan. These churches have come together to form a cluster and share a ministry team for worship and pastoral care needs. Because of their unique relationship, Villages’ rural ministries have a great capacity to support the spiritual needs of the community and encourages anyone who is near any of their locations to come seek them out.

The cluster’s goal as a united community is to plant the seeds of faith, and each year they approach a spiritual goal to enhance their learning and worship experiences. For 2019 their goal was “discovering how God is with us each and every day” and the goal for 2020 is to discern “what does it mean to be a Christian?”

Villages United Church and Ministries Villages also offers some fun programming including Euchar Nights, Beer and Bible study programs, Contemporary Services Saturday evenings, and Movie Nights, and are involved in several charitable programs including the food grains bank. Beyond their regular programming Villages also hosts outreach including an annual Vacation Bible Camp in July and a newly developed three day All Hallowed Evenings festival at the end of October.

Recently Villages has brought in a new full-time minister, Rev. Jacob Shaw. Rev. Shaw is very excited to see how the strengths and gifts of these communities can be used to share the Good News of the Gospel, live out our call to serve the communities and others, and build a better tomorrow for the villages belonging to this cluster.

A local newspaper in the area of the churches, The St Mary’s Independent published an interesting profile of the Villages United Church earlier this year. Click HERE to read the article.
