Hard Times at the Monastery!

A monastery in the English countryside had fallen on hard times and the Abbot decided to establish a business to defray their expenses. The monks considered a bakery or a winery, but being English they decided to open a fish-and-chip restaurant. The establishment was very popular attracting people from all over.

One customer, thinking himself clever, asked one of the brothers standing nearby, “I suppose you’re the fish friar?”

“No,” answered the brother with a straight face, “I’m the chip monk.”
